The UK government issued a record number of UK work visas from Jan to June 2023, as employers scrambled to recruit from overseas to fill the workforce shortage. According to data from the Home Office, there was a 45% increase in the number of visas issued for migrants to work in the UK, with a total of 321,000 visas issued.

British commissioner warns visa applicants, ‘Beware of internet scammers’
British High Commissioner Alex Ellis warned India about the visa scammers who are using his name to lure Indians who want to apply for a UK visa. The Commissioner said to be suspicious if scammers tell that a job or a UK visa will be provided quickly and easily. He also warned the Indians not to provide credit card or bank details as UK immigration officials will not ask to make payments to personal accounts.
The announcement for the scams was made after Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami told his UK counterpart that e-facility will soon be resumed for British citizens who want to travel to India.
A system upgrade for the e-visa facility is on its way and applicants can submit applications through the website. According to the UK Immigration Statistics, the highest number of visitor, work, and study visas was given to Indians in August 2022.

Cabinet approves MoU on recognition of academic qualifications between India & UK
The Union Cabinet has given the approval to an MoU between the UK and India. This MoU has been approved in relation to the mutual recognition of the qualifications of the students. This MoU will help in the movement of students between both countries. The degrees that are not included in the MoU are:

- Medicine
- Nursing and Para-Medical Education
- Pharmacy
- Law
- Architecture
The aim of the MoU is to give recognition to the educational qualifications related to the academic degrees within the educational institutions of the two countries. Cabinet approves MoU on recognition of academic qualifications between India & UK
The Union Cabinet has given the approval to an MoU between the UK and India. This MoU has been approved in relation to the mutual recognition of the qualifications of the students. This MoU will help in the movement of students between both countries. The degrees that are not included in the MoU are:
- Engineering
- Medicine
- Nursing and Para-Medical Education
- Pharmacy
- Law
- Architecture
The aim of the MoU is to give recognition to the educational qualifications related to the academic degrees within the educational institutions of the two countries. The UK has made a request for granting the recognition of one year Master’s programme which was accepted in the meeting between the education ministers of the two countries. The meeting was held on December 16, 2020.

International students who are residing in the UK for more than six months are not required to have any registration with the police authorities. Previously, students have to register with the police and have to pay a fee.
