Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program

Looking to relocate to Canada quickly and get on track for a PR? The Canada Provincial Nominee Program is an accessible way to settle in Canada. Under the Provincial Nominee Program Canadian provinces and territories can nominate individuals for a Canadian Permanent Residency. While the PNP program is separate from the Express Entry program, it does offer applicants holding a select PNP an additional 600 CRS points when they enter the Express Entry pool. Several PNP programs have sent Letters of Interest to applicants with CRS scores under 400 as well.

Alberta is one of the three Canadian Prairie Provinces. While it shares its northern boundary with the Northwest Territories, the US state of Montana lies to the south of the province. The Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and British Columbia make the other two neighbours, towards the east and the west respectively.

While Edmonton is the provincial capital, the other prominent cities in Alberta include – Calgary, Red Deer, St. Albert, Airdrie, Lethbridge, Leduc, and Grande Prairie.

Over the years, Alberta has become a popular destination for immigrants that wish to take up Canadian permanent residence through the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP], intending to settle within Alberta after being granted their Canada PR.

According to Statista, a leading provider of market and consumer data of Canada, in 2021, there were around 23,987 immigrants in Alberta. A “recent immigrant” is the term applied to an individual that had obtained a landed immigrant or Canadian permanent resident status within the previous 5 years.

Alberta immigration is a much sought-after provincial immigration program for immigrants that intend settling down in Canada.

The province offers a wide range in terms of employment opportunities for a new immigrant.

A part of the PNP of Canada, Alberta’s immigration program is known as the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program [AINP]. It is through the AINP that Alberta nominates individuals for permanent residence in Canada. To be considered by Alberta PNP for a nomination, the individual will be required to either possess the requisite skills for filling up job shortages within the province or plan on buying/starting a business in Alberta.

Additionally, such prospective AINP nominees must also be able to provide for their families after relocating to Alberta.

AINP Canada is run by the provincial government of Alberta and the federal government of Canada.

Those successful in securing a nomination through the Alberta immigrant nominee program might apply for Canadian permanent resident status, together with their spouse and dependent children.

Canadian permanent residence via the AINP route involves a 2-step process. While the first part of the process is securing a nomination through the provincial government, the second part involves applying to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] for Canada PR.

The final decision on granting permanent residence lies with IRCC.
